History Of Orsett & Thurrock Cricket Club

Orsett & Thurrock Cricket Club formed in 2016 (Previously Orsett Cricket Club founded in 1839 & Thurrock Cricket Club founded in 1992)  is a thriving community club that runs 8 Senior Saturday teams, 2 Sunday teams , 1 Ladies Team, 11 Boys and 3 Girls Teams and welcomes everyone to our club to enjoy our setting and the sport of cricket.

We provide coaching programmes for youngsters and have facilities at School Lane in Orsett to enable us to deliver this. The Club is affiliated to the England Cricket Board (ECB) through the Essex County Cricket Board and we are ECB Clubmark accredited.

We have strong community links including with the borough schools and the Orsett Community Forum. We host many school competitions and coaching sessions for primary and secondary age groups and outreach work in the schools themselves through the "Chance to Shine" programme. We have worked with Orsett Forum to create an  " outdoor gym" at the Recreation Ground where our club is based and hope to continue this work through the creation of facilities for the village including a community cafe to provide a multi-functional meeting place.

Since amalgamating in 2015 the development of our junior/colts section has been remarkable, particularly the growth in numbers from 80 to 220+. This has been partly accelerated by the numbers of girls involved and also by the "All Stars" programme for 5 to 8 year olds. This is underpinned by our schools involvement so that we are now one of the largest cricket clubs in Essex.

The development of female cricket over the past few years has placed our club as a focal point for women's and girls cricket in Essex, and we have been widely recognised by the England Cricket Board and Essex County Cricket Board.

We are at the vanguard of female cricket as a sport and it is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
